Questions & Answers with Glen Bodary the founder of EMS Online Pet Register. (Patent Pending ) the EMS Online Register, and your company’s slogan “ If you love them.......clip it “ A. The EMS Online Pet Register is part of a National Campaign called " If you love em .....CLIP IT " The EMS Medical Alert Card Clips to your driver’s license and has two purposes. First of all, it can allow "Non Pet Owners" with health problem to have a EMS medical alert card that they can attach to their driver's license. This can allow the EMS personnel to retrieve instantly very important medical information online. If a pet owner suffers a personal life crisis or is involved in a natural disaster, the front of the EMS Card will alert the paramedics or law enforcement agencies if they are pet owners. The EMS Card will state that Medical Alert information for both the pet owner and their pets can be accessed online. The EMS Card allows paramedics & police agencies to log on to our secured web site and enter the owners security code to access the EMS Online Register and retrieve important medical information on the pet owners and their pets at the scene of a medical emergency. Including phone numbers of family members, schools or day cares to be notified. Name of family doctors, and any important medical conditions and information for All Family Members. Such as allergies to drugs, medications being taken such as blood thinners, including non prescription drugs. Over 100,000 people die or suffer serious side effects from improper medication given due to lack of medical history. Their pets location, any medicine that they may require, their vet's phone number, as well as names and phone numbers of family members, neighbors or pet organizations that will come and care for their pets until they can be reunited with them. Also it’s very important to understand that any of the medical information that the pet owner or non pet owners, places on the secured EMS Online Register is an "option" and none of this information is accessible to the general public, only the person with your security code can access this information. If you lose your EMS Card you can go online and hide your profile. Therefore, if someone unauthorized tries to access your profile, it will be hidden from them until you change your security code or until you make your profile available again if you find your card. Second of all, the back of the EMS Card can be a Photo ID Card, for pets that decide to take a walk around the neighborhood without their owners. Having a EMS Pet Photo ID card attached to your driver’s license allows you to show people a photo of your pet while you search for them. Therefore, when time is of the essence, you will always have a photo of your pet with you, any time or place that your pet escapes. Hotels & resorts are not only becoming more pet friendly, but are catering to pet owners with special pet beds complete with pet treats on their pillow. So more people are traveling with their pets today and the number of pets being injured or lost during car accidents are going up. If your pet is injured while away from home any vet that cares for him, if you give them your security code., could have online access and get medical information and make contact with your regular vet. Q. I’m assuming that there is a cost for the card and online register ? A. The EMS Online Register has a $ 20.00 One Time Membership Fee, then the second year on, the cost is only $ 5. 00 a year to maintain your EMS profile online. You can cancel your profile at any time. This profile allows you unlimited number of pets and medical information on the Online Register and you will receive one EMS Card to attach to your driver’s license. Extra cards for family members can be purchased for $ 4.00 each. It’s strongly recommended that you add a photo of your pet to your EMS Pet Card so that it can also be used as a photo ID card, if you lose your pet. You can have up to two photos on your Pet Photo ID Card and up to three photos per pet, in your Online Pet Profile. Q, What other features or advantages are there for registering your pets ? A. When you create a online pet profile, you have an active account that you can change 24 hours a day. If you’re going to your cabin, a camp ground, marina or will be vacationing through out the country with your pet you have the option to update your pet’s location on a daily basis. It’s possible because of the heat that you may decide to leave your pet at a hotel while you go out to dinner. What happens if you suffer a personal life crisis and you don’t come back by the time you are suppose to check out of the room ? The hotel may assume that you abandoned the pet. Chances are, your pet will be sent to a shelter where they may be euthanized within a couple of days, if you can’t be reunited with it in time. Your pets could be at your cabin or a marina for days or weeks before anybody realizes that your pets were with you. Q. How about pet owners that already have made arrangements for someone to take and care for their pets ? A. Even if you have detailed plans about the care of your pets through family members or friends it is still an excellent idea to make it official and the EMS Online Pet Register provides that. The EMS Card attached to your driver’s license can allow instant information at the time of the personal crisis about the care of your pets. This is very important, what if your pets are with you during the time of the crisis. If your pet is also injured the paramedic or police can get on line and find out your pet’s vet and call them for it’s medical history. Being a responsible pet owner, isn’t just about getting them neutered and keeping current on all the vaccinations required. It’s also about making sure that your pets will be able to continue to live in a similar loving and caring environment if you ever become separated from them. As a society we have wills, trust and life insurance to provide for our families continued welfare. It’s becoming popular for pet owners to include their pets into wills and are setting up trust funds for their care. However, it could take several days or weeks before a will is even read. The EMS Pet Register can provide instant information and immediate care for your loved ones. I have a friend that has made arrangements through a will upon her death, that her pets are to be euthanized. She has burial plots and caskets already purchased. However, one dog that is about 16 years old needs daily pain medicine and could be in a lot of pain until her will is read. Ems Pet Register has provided her the assurance that the dog won’t suffer until the will is read and her wishes are fulfilled. Q. Are there any other plans in the works ? Yes, as matter of fact, and thanks for asking, because I would like to make it very clear that our parent company, EMS Pet Service is not just a site that you visit to make advance plans for emergencies. We want a web site that pet owners will bookmark and visit often. Our goal is to provide pet owners a web site that they want to visit every day because they know that when they leave the site. They will leave with a smile and feeling happier than when they entered. Our web site will be expanded shortly and will be featuring stories from and about people that are compassionate about pets and have made personal sacrifices for them. We will have pet stories that are humorous and heart warming. We plan on including a product review section, along with question and answer interviews with various pet businesses, articles from Veterinarians on pet care, vitamins and nutrition. We also will be adding a FREE Amber Pet Alert for all of our members so that if you find a lost pet you can click on our amber alert and type in city that the pet was found in to see if any of our members posted the lost pet. Q Did Hurricane Katrina bring to the fore front the concept of the EMS Online Pet Register ? A. That’s kind of an embarrassing question for me. As the old saying goes sometimes we can’t see the forest through the trees. The Online Pet Register just started from a personal level of guilt. Being single and not knowing what would happen to Maggie & Zack, if I did not return home due to suffering a personal life crisis. The EMS Online Register was well into development before someone suggested to me, that it was a shame that this system wasn't in place before Kartina. At that point I finally realized what a huge impact that the EMS Online Pet Register can have for pets and their owners world wide. About two years ago, I adopted Maggie a German Short Haired Pointer from a lady that was single and I mentioned to her that I had a fear of what would happen to my pets if I were to suddenly pass away. She immediately responded back, “Me Too.” At that time, I silently wondered how many other single pet owners harbor that fear. Q, Would it be to personal if I asked you what arrangements have you made for your dogs ? A. I have listed several options and it seems to be forever changing. Again one of the great things about Ems Online Pet Register, it’s an active account, allowing you to constantly change and update your information on medicines, the pet's location and to their care and relocation needs . Many pet owners know or have some idea of who would be willing to take their pet. However, at the time of suffering a personal crisis, that person may not be able to provide that care do to changing circumstances. Therefore, it’s important to have two or three back up plans. If you have several pets do you want them to all stay together, will it be a burden for the new care taker if they already have pets of their own ? Would your pets get the individual love that each pet is custom to, or would it be better to place each pet with someone that can give it the individual love and attention that we all like ? All I’m saying is that pet owners should give a lot of thought to a plan that provides temporary or permanent care of our pets. My personal instructions in the event of my being suddenly hospitalized is for my dogs to be spoiled at a doggie day care, if my hospitalization is for less then two weeks. For longer separations, I have a long term boarding facility that I chosen. Upon my death, placement of my pets take in consideration the ages of my pets at the time. If they are still young, and have special personality traits such as love for children or hunting or water, then I want to make plans for them that will provide them the best environment for their individual attributes. Q. Do you have to own a computer to register your pet ? A. Absolutely not, the online profile is for the paramedic or law enforcement agencies to have immediate access to your personal instructions through their computers. Anybody that does not have access to a computer, can write to us and we will we be glad to send out forms for the pet owner to fill out and we can input that data and create a pet profile for them. Q. Is all of the pet owners personal information on their pet profile open to viewing by the public ? A. No, people can not go online and view other members pet profiles . And your information will NEVER be SOLD. The only person that would have access to your pet profile would be someone that was assisting you during a personal life crises and finds your pet card that is attached to your driver’s license. If your wallet or purse is stolen then the information that is on your pet profile would not provide much more detail then what is on your driver license Possibly some medical information. There are no driver's license or social security numbers, nothing that could lead to identify theft . We are trying to provide just enough information to help save a life of pet or its owner. Common sense tells you not to provide information on your web site that would tell someone that you have a key hidden under the doormat and cash in your cookie jar for pet food. That’s why it’s important to list several contact phone numbers of neighbors or family members that have access to your house. Again, I want to stress that if your card is lost or stolen, you can call us or go online and hide your profile until a new security code is issued. Q. Have you had any major surprises during the development of EMS Pet Register. A. Wow, good question, I guess there have been two things that have gotten my attention. My biggest surprise so far is the support that we have gotten from a large cross section of the pet industry from the small Ma & Pa business to the giants in the pet industry trying to help promote the EMS Online Pet Register. The exposure offered from the media, print, radio and tv has been a great testament of the media trying to seek out those warm and fuzzy feel good articles and bring them to the forefront and focus on the compassion and goodness that is in this country. When I first started getting on the internet to do research I was blown away by all of the pet organizations, individual families, the animal rescues groups and major corporations trying to make a difference in the care of pets. When at a time that our world seems so self-centered, full of anger and greed we have individuals and families of pet lovers across the country that are making major personal sacrifices and making a difference every day. Not just when we have a major disaster, but every day. Yes,that really blew me away. I have came across some web sites and organizations that brought tears to my eyes, along with some more guilt because I now want to do more. Q. You seem to have a very strong passion for dogs. A. Yes, that is obvious to anyone that meets me. Like my ex-wife use to say “I wish you would show me as much attention as you do your dogs.” But we can’t go down that road. Seriously, I’m not any different than 75% of the pet owners out there that have the patience that it takes to raise puppies and kittens and the love that grows from it. My dogs are all sporting dogs, I can’t domesticate them too much by dressing them in a designer line of pet clothing, but I do my best to spoil them rotten. Q. People always refer to the unconditional love that dogs provide, is that why they are so special to you ? A. Actually, that is only part of it. For me the major part being that I personally believe that true inner happiness is developed through making someone else happy first. There isn’t a better feeling than when you unexpectedly do something special for someone and they react with such joy. I can’t think of another animal on this planet that you can instantly make happy 99% of the time with just a few words such as "you want a doggie treat" or the sound of you picking up their leash. They are not only happy but they go crazy with excitement. Having the ability to make something so happy so quick with such little effort, provides such a deep inner personal happiness that is hard for me to explain. But I do know that because of my dogs, I’m very happy and at peace with myself. That is why that I want to make sure if something happens to me my pets have the freedom and opportunity to bring that joy and inner peace to someone else. Depending on my pet's ages at the time, I may place them with a senior citizen, in a nursing home visitation program, with a child in a cancer treatment facility or to a family to create the next generation of pet lovers. It is my way of leaving something behind and hopefully creating another step of responsible pet ownership. The EMS Pet Register has provided me with that opportunity, and is there for all responsible pet lovers to use. My personal goal for EMS Pet Service is to provide a low cost service so that no pet will be left without someone to love and to make happy. This is just another step of being a responsible pet owner and we are hoping that all of the pet lovers will help spread the word about the EMS Online Register. “ if you love them.....clip it “ The EMS Pet Card that clips to your driver’s license Q. How can pet owners sign up for the EMS Online Register ? A. They can log on to our web site www.emsclipit.com and simply fill out the forms to create their EMS profile. When you have completed your forms, your profile will be instantly added to the EMS Online Register. The EMS Card that attaches to your driver’s license, should arrive in the mail in about two weeks or less. If you don’t have access to a computer or have any questions about the service you can call EMS Pet Service at 231-903-0818 |
